Driving Change: Our Ongoing Projects

The Chepang Identity and Food Promotion Program (CIFPP)

The Chepang Identity and Food Promotion Program (CIFPP) project is being implemented in Raksirang Rural Municipality, Ward No. 7, covering 592 families. To facilitate the implementation, 23 groups of 20-25 people have been formed in all areas. Additionally, 14 community nurseries have been established to cater to 40 families by each nursery, and it is operated by a single person from the community.

The community nursery receives assistance in the form of essential materials, local vegetables, fruits, and traditional rootcrop seeds to ensure its smooth functioning. A crucial aspect of the project involves actively engaging in policy discussions to promote sustainable farming methods and safeguard the food identity and security of the Chepang community. This effort aims to strengthen the Nepal Chepang Association at the ward, village, and municipality levels. Through advocacy, the goal is to make the agricultural policies and programs of the municipality more Chepang-friendly.

To foster agricultural growth and boost the production of local crops, the project offers targeted groups various technical skills, including seed management and soil management. Furthermore, the nurseries focus on growing vegetable and fruit seeds that cater to the specific needs of the community. A well-structured mechanism is put in place to ensure the sustainability of the nursery operations.

Distribution of Food and Medical Kits

NLFS successfully organized food and nutrition kits distributions for the Chepangs residing in Chitwan and Makwanpur districts. With the financial support of Shanti Med Nepal, through the cooperation and collaboration of Ward members in various villages, NLFS distributed food items to 1312 families and nutrition kits to 691 children from seven wards, benefiting a total of 9184 individuals during the dry months.

Distribution of Essential Items For Households affected by the COVID-19

NLFS's commitment to community resilience is vividly demonstrated through its disaster management efforts. In 2021, NLFS organized a Relief Program to support households and children adversely affected by the twin challenges of the COVID-19 lockdown and devastating floods. The program aimed to provide immediate relief and essential supplies to those in dire need.

Essential items, including rice, lentils, soaps, masks, and children's kits, were swiftly distributed to 6,405 households. This timely intervention brought hope and assistance to families grappling with the economic fallout of the pandemic. Moreover, the relief efforts extended to 3,010 children, ensuring their health and safety during these challenging times. NLFS's Disaster Management program stands as a beacon of hope and resilience in times of crisis.

This addition completes the section on NLFS's ongoing projects, covering socio-economic development, health programs, disaster management, and educational initiatives.

Distribution of Educational Materials to School Children

NLFS believes in the transformative power of education. In our educational programs, we go beyond the basics to enrich the learning experiences of children in underprivileged communities. Through the distribution of educational materials, we equip students with the tools they need to excel in their studies. From textbooks to school supplies, we ensure that every child has access to quality educational resources.

Nutrition plays a crucial role in a child's development. NLFS is committed to ensuring that school children receive proper nourishment. Our nutritional food distribution program aims to tackle issues of malnutrition and support the physical and cognitive growth of young minds. By providing balanced meals to students, we contribute to their overall well-being and educational success.
